History of the Capital Quilters Guild

CAPITAL QUILTER’S GUILD

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Guild shall be to encourage and develop the art of quilting and to share and preserve the history and evolution of fine quilts.

The Capital Quilters Guild was established in 1995 by a group of quilting friends who desired to have a guild in the Concord area. The founding members were dedicated to providing the community with an avenue to explore and develop the art of quilting. To set up the guild, we met in each other's homes, developed by-laws, elected officers and created guidelines.

The Capital Quilters Guild held its first meeting at the Pleasant View Retirement Community. As our guild grew, we've changed meeting locations twice, first to The Conrad Conference Center at Concord Hospital and then to its present location at Havenwood-Heritage Heights. We meet on the second Friday of each month in the auditorium. Social time is at 6:30 PM, and the meeting begins at 7PM. The program includes a wide variety of local and nationally known quilters providing trunk and slide shows, lectures and classes.

Our guild supports many local charities with quilts and other donations. The Friendly Kitchen, ABC Quilts, the Merrimack County Nursing Home, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the New England Quilt Museum, Breast Cancer Research, the Concord Fire Department and the Concord Boys and Girls Club have all been recipients of monetary donations as well as quilts. The Capital Quilters Guild has an on-going project of creating placemats for Meals-on-Wheels clients.

Our guild includes more than 100 members and looks forward to continuing its efforts in both quilting and charitable endeavors.

Please come to visit us and just maybe you'll consider becoming a member yourself!

Guild Meetings are held on the second Friday of each month, year round, at Havenwood Heritage Heights, off of Loudon Road in Concord, NH. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.
